GAMES / Shikaku
HOW TO PLAY
The current puzzle has exactly one correct solution.
Drag to draw rectangles. You can also click the grid and use the arrow keys, then press Enter or Space to finish (Esc to cancel, Backspace to erase).
Each rectangle must contain exactly one numbered clue, and its area must match that number. A red hatched pattern means the rectangle is the wrong size.
The game was invented by Yoshinao Anpuku, a math student at the University of Kyoto, in 1989 and published by Japanese games magazine Nikoli under the name "Shikaku". The puzzle later spread to other publications and has been adapted into video games.
